TRANSPARENCY & GUIDANCE

Protection Guide & Technical Standards

At IXMOTO, we believe in radical honesty regarding motorcycle safety gear. We never use vague buzzwords like “crash-proof” or “guaranteed safety.” Here is exactly how our garments work, what they do, and where their limits lie.

MECHANICS

1. Abrasion Resistance vs. Impact Attenuation

A motorcycle incident presents two distinct physical threats that require two distinct engineering responses:

Abrasion Resistance (The Slide)

When a rider slides across asphalt, friction generates extreme surface heat that shreds regular cotton denim or fleece in under a fraction of a second. Abrasion-resistant linings (such as aramid fibres) possess high tensile strength and thermal stability to delay fabric tear-through and slow friction burns.

Impact Attenuation (The Strike)

When a rider strikes the pavement, a kerb, or an obstacle, localized kinetic shockwaves travel into bone and tissue. Flexible impact protectors (visco-elastic foam or honeycombed polymers) compress to absorb and distribute peak kinetic force over a wider surface area.

COMPONENTS

2. What Removable Armour Can and Cannot Do

IXMOTO armoured pieces feature internal envelope pockets at the shoulders, elbows, and spine.

✓ What It Can Do:

  • • Soften blunt impact forces to vulnerable joints (elbow point, shoulder cap).
  • • Reduce the severity of road rash and direct surface bruising.
  • • Provide peace of mind during city commuting and urban night rides.

× What It Cannot Do:

  • • It does NOT guarantee prevention of bone fractures, dislocated joints, or internal injuries.
  • • It cannot protect against high-velocity kinetic collisions with vehicles or rigid roadside barriers.
  • • It does NOT replace a certified full-face helmet, leather gloves, and reinforced motorcycle boots.
STANDARDS & LAB CERTIFICATIONS

3. Certification Status & Supplier Verification

In European and international jurisdictions, motorcycle protective equipment is governed by technical standards:

  • EN 17092 (Garment Standards): Classifies riding garments from Class A (urban) up to Class AAA (track leather). [CONFIRM LABORATORY TEST ACCREDITATION WITH SUPPLIER]
  • EN 1621-1 (Joint Protectors): Governs transmitted force thresholds for shoulder and elbow pads (Level 1 max 35kN; Level 2 max 20kN). [VERIFY CERTIFICATION STAMP ON INCLUDED INSERTS]
  • EN 1621-2 (Back Protectors): Governs central spinal impact pads. [CONFIRM DOCUMENTATION]

IXMOTO does not publish unverified or fabricated CE ratings. When batch test certificates are completed by accredited test laboratories, document numbers will be published directly on this page.

MAINTENANCE

4. Fitment, Inspection & Washing Rules

1. Snug Positioning: Armour must rest directly against the joint when arms are outstretched in your motorcycle riding stance. If the hoodie is excessively loose, pads may rotate out of position during a slide.

2. Mandatory Pad Removal Before Washing: Always remove shoulder, elbow, and back pads prior to laundering. Submerging impact foam in hot water or machine agitation degrades molecular energy absorption.

3. Post-Incident Inspection: If you experience an impact slide, inspect the aramid lining and stitching thoroughly. Even if the cotton shell looks intact, fibres that have absorbed severe friction stress must be retired.
